My Blog on Marketing part 2

My Blog on Marketing
This is a continuation of a previous blog that I did aptly named "My Blog on Marketing".
in that blog I clarified what spamming is and identified it as  coming from the old school marketing days of "Its all about the numbers." Then pointed out how building relationships was a better way to build your business today.
I left off with stating that while there is some merit to wanting to build a large customer base or list, there are better ways to do it now.

Marketing with Purpose
Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Betty Ross, The things they did and said were important because they had purpose and integrity.                                                                                  Purpose and Integrity: Vital to building your business:                                                        Purpose and integrity in your day to day business activities have become vital to connecting the consumer with the marketer or business. People want to do business with:                    1.Companies they can trust, who is willing to be open with what they do with their money. I am not referring to intricate details about how the business is run, but rather the kind of charity groups the sponsor and that they are not tied to something that the consumer would not want to be a part of.                                                       2.Which brings me to the most important quality that today's consumers look for: The purpose that drives the company. Consumers, People, like to feel they are a part of something important, Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Betty Ross, The things they did and said were important because they had purpose and integrity. The fact that they had integrity and people believed in their purpose made their actions important and people listened and followed them.

Marketing Purpose
Now that I have established why integrity and purpose are important to building your business, I would like to show you one way that companies today are reaching out to their target market and building their customer base using purpose as their way to connect with their customers. Contributing a portion of their earnings to major causes that consumers want to help. Due to the current economic times, people have found that they can't give to the things that they consider important because they need every cent to meet their needs. Tide laundry soap and Amega Global are two companies that are doing just that. Tide has started a mobile laundry service that services areas in our country that are hard hit by natural disasters. They promote this by offering to contribute money from sales of t-shirts to run these mobile laundry centers. Amega Global, a revolutionary health care company, through its Amega Global Foundation, does this by contributing a percentage of what they earn to the cause of helping Japan recover from their recent earthquake disaster among other projects.                                           Now as a small time business owner it is not feasible for you to do what these major companies are doing. But you can connect with others through showing them who you are and what your purpose is for your business. In other words make sure they know you have integrity and they know your "why."                                                             Of course you need to know your why before you can tell others, so I suggest that if you don't know why you are in business, what your purpose is, then I suggest you take some time out to think about it and write it down. Mike Hobbs of Marketing Survival Skills says that writing down your "why" is crucial to you having a successful business.                                                                                                            Well once again this blog has gotten quite long so I will continue this in another blog. Marketing Class
Today I decided, after being encouraged to do so by my friend Vadim Dambreville to do a series based on information that I put in my final project that I did in one of my classes last term.I learned from a lot of places and people such as Marketing Survival Skills. But there are many other great leaders and I will be mentioning them throughout the blogs over the next few weeks.)
My topic was on Old School Marketing, Spamming, and Current Technology.

Old school Marketing (its all about the numbers) has given way to what we now call spamming. It is much more than unwanted emails, social sites such as Facebook, Twitter and even YouTube have become prime targets for ways to easily put unsolicited, unexpected advertising for everything from products for sell to starting an online business, in front of people. But in today's technological age it is also no longer necessary, nor effective to build your business using this technique.

Marketing Changes
There is some validity to the philosophy that the more people that see what you are offering, the greater your Marketing arena, the more business you will generate.

But there is better way to do that. Today's target Market no longer buys products based solely on the amount of times they have seen something. Nor do they want to jump on the band wagon of the newest business or program that came along just because "my best friend Lou's Mom is doing it."

Today's consumer is much more particular, as an online marketer myself, I have seen first hand that today's consumer wants to know who they are supporting before they spend their money and recent technological advances have given them the opportunity to find this information out in a relatively short time.

The internet has also removed the barriers of distance and the "walls" that prevented us from crossing internationally to other countries, and now offers ways for families, friends and others to connect more freely and find more information than we have ever had access to before. While this does create a larger target market and more ways to spam or "get the numbers." it also opens the door for Bobby Sue to ask Aunt Jammy "What kind of stainer she uses or has she ever heard of....?" from halfway around the world. So you had best be prepared to ensure that Aunt Jammy knows about what you are Marketing personally. One way to do that is through online connections on social sites so she will recommend what you are selling

Barriers Removed
"But how do I do that, you ask? I can't be hopping all over the universe just to make sure one little ole lady is aware of what I am Marketing so she will recommend me?"

That's true you can't and to try to do that would be insane!

But you can get your brand out there and develop your target Market by creating "fan pages" and building connections through the same methods that Bobby Sue uses to connect with Aunt Jammy. (I will discuss this in another blog.)

So should I just forget about all the great training I received on Marketing enduring the "its all about the numbers" days?"

No, it still has its place. Just not in the form of spamming. If you are patient and take the time to build relationships by showing what you are Marketing and letting the world see the person behind the company, then you will succeed. This is getting kind of lengthy so I will continue this on the next blog…

Hope to see you there!

Kathleen
